A Celebration of Helen Hill evening of screenings will be held at the Harvard Film Archive on October 28, 2011. Among those films being shown will be “Vessel” “Upperground Show” “Rain Dance” and “The Florestine Collection”. The films will be introduced by Helen’s mother, Becky Lewis.

Several films of Helen’s will be screened at the next meeting of the Columbia University Cultural Memory Colloquium, on Monday, September 26th at 6pm.

Professor Jenny Davidson will be presenting “Madame Winger Makes a Film” “Mouseholes” and “The Florestine Collection”

The Tapp’s Arts Center will be hosting a screening of The Florestine Collection on May 9 — Helen Hill’s birthday, — along with two short films.

Starting at 7 p.m., and admission is $5, with proceeds benefitting the Helen Hill Media Education Center. Call 803-609-3479 for more.

Experimental animator Helen Hill found more than 100 handmade dresses in a trash pile one Mardi Gras Day in New Orleans. She set out to make a film about the dressmaker, an elderly seamstress who had recently passed away.

Hi all,

Helen Hill and Paul Gailiunas’s film The Florestine Collection will be premiering Saturday, April 22, at the Nickelodeon Theatre in Columbia, SC. Both Paul and Francis Pop will be there.

Birthday Fundraiser in NoLa – photos!

Courtney Egan took some photos at the Helen Hill birthday fundraiser held last week in New Orleans at the Zeitgeist Multi-disciplinary Arts Center.

We did a fundraiser here in New Orleans last weekend, May 8th. It was called the Helen Hill Birthday Fundraiser. Lots of filmmakers showed work, there were cupcakes and a fashion performance, music by friends of Helen and Paul’s, selling of DVDs and a drawing for Florestine keychain viewfiinders – and it was really successful – we raised almost $1000.

Paul is currently working on finishing Helen’s last film, The Florestine Collection. This Saturday, April 24th, there will be a fundraiser at the Echo Park Film Center to help raise completion funds for the film.

Please join us to see a ten-minute preview of The Florestine Collection, as well as other short experimental films by Helen, and several of her filmmaking friends, including Nancy Jean Tucker, Julianna (J.P.) Parr, and Trixy Sweetvittles. Copies of a DVD compilation of Helen’s films will be on sale. Kids are welcome, treats provided! Admission $5; additional donations gladly accepted.
